CALIFORNIA RENTER POWER ASSEMBLY

The California Renter Power Assembly (CARP) is a space where tenants come together to grow our power, deepen our relationships, and sharpen our collective strategy. It’s a gathering of renters, organizers, and allies from across the state — people directly impacted by the housing crisis and actively building a movement to win housing as a human right.

CARP is rooted in a long tradition of people’s assemblies — from the global south to Black-led movements in the US south. These gatherings are grounded in the belief that to transform systems, we must also transform ourselves, our relationships, and our ways of decision-making and governance.

Since 2018, California Renter Power Assemblies (CARP) have brought together renters, organizers, and allies to build a powerful statewide movement for housing justice. CARP is more than a gathering — it’s how we grow connection, strategy, and power across California.

We believe that when tenants come together to share stories, align strategies, and strengthen relationships, we move closer to a world where housing is a human right — and where those most impacted lead the way.

  • 2018 & 2019: Laid the foundation for statewide alignment

    2023: Reconnected after the pandemic, built trust, named conditions, and surfaced shared priorities

    2025: Will deepen our cohesion and coordination, helping us move together with vision and strength

  • Sharpen Shared Strategy – Equip us to fight together across regions and campaigns

    Strengthen Culture – Celebrate, heal, and build resilience through music, storytelling, and joy

    Support Organizing – Share tools, uplift experiments, and grow our base-building infrastructure
